Will Lifting Weights Make Me Bulky?

No, lifting weights will not make you bulky.

Lifting weights will do one thing very well, however. It will make you stronger.

What Even is Bulk?

When you go to Costco, you buy food in bulk. This means that you’re buying food in large quantities.

The same is true if your goal is to bulk up — you’re going to buy (and eat) a lot of food in large quantities.

How the Professionals Do It

When a high school football player enters college, the goal of the strength coaches is to put mass (bulk) on the player. Sure, they lift a lot of weights. But the primary way they achieve this goal is by changing the athlete’s diet.

You’ve heard the saying that “abs are made in the kitchen.” The same is true for “bulking.” It’s done in the kitchen. Some of my friends in college who played on the football team would eat north of 5,000 calories a day. This is how you bulk up.

Takeaway

This was a simple explanation, but true nonetheless. Abs and bulk are made in the kitchen, not the gym.

Eat less to lose, eat more to gain.

And lift weights to get stronger.
